Event brings together high school and college educators to bridge mathematics gap
A special collaboration between Educational Service District 112 and Clark College will bring regional high school and college mathematics teachers together to bridge the gap between high school and college mathematics. Set for Thursday, September 22, the evening event will feature Ruth Parker Ph.D and CEO of MEC (Mathematics Education Collaborative) who will address the topic of Successful Mathematics Instructional Approaches. Ruth has been a keynote speaker at numerous educational conferences throughout the United States to improve the quality of mathematics instruction. She is also author of “Mathematical Power” and “Supporting School Mathematics”.
Clark College and ESD 112 have worked together for the last four years to bring college faculty and area middle school and high school teachers together to study instruction and student learning, thus bridging the gaps between middle school, high school, and college. The event is funded Clark College’s Gates Foundation grant “Rethinking Pre College Math in Washington Colleges”.
ESD 112 mathematics coordinators Sue Bluestein and Gloria Ferguson have been instrumental in the collaboration between math teachers.
